I've seen what Hell looks like!.....Week 4 in Ypsilanti

On Tuesday we had like two or three lessons set up and some service to do and they all fell though! So that day was a blah! But the plus side was we went to a ward missionary meeting and I was able to have my torn pants given to someone who can hopefully fix them for me so I can still use them. Today was a rainy day so that was great I enjoy the rain!!

On Wednesday we had good old district meeting and that was great! The other Elders brought cake and we had a great district meeting. That afternoon we went over to a members to help rake his yard. It was all full of leaves we were there for like 2.5 hours raking and then we went off to the bishops for dinner. They fed us well ...ohhh pork chops and potatoes and all the great stuff. Then out for some finding later that night.

On Thursday we had three lessons set up for today and we had all three....... go though! We were able to teach some people that was great! We had lot of teaching opportunities that night it was great. My companion had to go to the dentist today so that was boring just sitting in the lobby and waiting.

On Friday super planning,  and it was Alfredo Friday! After that we helped someone move who was not a member and that went great.  They had lot of stuff to move and when we left they gave us a full large Pizza! Man that was great! We also went to see one of our investigators that night and haha, he always cracks me up I love it.

On Saturday we went over to help a member of the ward, along with a few other members, to help fill in a swimming pool with dirt. That was a lot of fun. It took the whole morning and with lots of trips, it was great. That afternoon we made a lot of stop bys and tried to visit lots of people. We went to the hospital today to give a blessing to someone, the Uof M hospital is humongous! It was a lot of fun. Then we called that a night.

On Sunday it was ward conference and that was great. We had a fantastic dinner  appointment tonight and that was great.

TODAY we went to Hell Michigan for another Elders birthday and that was a lot of fun! So today we visited Hell and they gave us a free mug, postcard and a free game of mini golf. It was a good day!

Things are warming up :(.....Week 3 in Ypsilanti

So Tuesday we met with our investigator and we were able to put him on date! and that was great. It's tentatively May 1st but we will probably have to shift it around. Later that afternoon we had Interviews with president and that was all fine and dandy. We were able to have dinner with a member tonight we had tosquitos with pork and refried beans in it with a corn tortilla and some rice and it was great! Then a ward missionary council meeting and well it ran over time but it was a great meeting.

On Wednesday we knocked that morning and then made ourselves some lunch then... An exchange with the Zone Leaders.  Elder Chandler came here with me. We meet with some people and also with an investigator. We knocked on door... (sorry nothing spiritual at that door) other then the fact that the Detroit hockey game was on and all that was separating me from the game was a couple of doors and then it hit me - its play-off season and I can't watch! That was tough but I shall persevere as Calgary didn't even make it into the playoffs! That was much of what happened today. The subject of the email has to do with the fact that it has been in the high 70's all week and hit it 80's (21-27ºC)  on Sunday!  I also made some goulash, not as good as mommy makes but I made some!

On Thursday we knocked for a while that morning and afternoon and we helped a member move some couches. That night we did some more knocking and finding and really didn't do much that day. We went to our investigators home and raked up leaves for like three hours and we also burned the leafs, that way we didn't have to bag them that was great!!!

On Friday some good old Weekly Planning! Then during some finding hours. Later we met with our investigator and he always cracks me up! It was fun being able to help him. We invited him to church so I'll tell you if he came.... stay tuned. I also made some alfredo for alfredo Fridays!

On Saturday we went to a member baptism and that was fun. They had a dinner afterwards and they had alfredo and lasagne and olive garden bread so that was like Totally Amazing. That afternoon we went to a members to take her the sacrament and visit with her. That night we went with another member to visit his home teaching family and that was great! They are great people.

On Sunday we of course went to church and for lunch I made perogies. I found the ones I like here and they were great. We went to visit a family and we are trying to help them get to the temple for this summer and I can see them there.. soon :) Our investigator did come to church and he loved coming. He said he was truly blessed and that he could feel the spirit there. So that was all find and dandy and that night we tried to stop by some people but no one was home.

PS... I love mail :) have a great week

I Found The Tree Of life.......Week 2 in Ypsilanti

On Tuesday we met with an investigator and he had watched a session of conference and he is from Germany. He heard Dieter F Uchtdorfs talk on the Sunday morning about the bombings in Draisn and he was there when it happened and thought it was pretty cool.  Later that night all the ward missionaries and  us missionaries went to the ward mission leaders home for dinner and a meeting so that was a pretty great day in general. His wife is someone who adjusts your back so she did that for the missionaries it was neat!

On Wednesday we went to a Zone Meeting and that was fun. We were instructed well. After that I went on an exchange to a small town called Chelsea, about an hour away. It's a small town probably smaller then Magrath. I was with Elder Jones. We had a lesson but to get there we had to travel like 30 minutes and we went there and we invited her to read and PRAY TO FIND OUT FOR HERSELF. She said she would so hopefully she does and by the time that was over we had a long journey back to the apartment. We also did some knocking so that was great day.

On Thursday morning before we went back to Ann Arbor to exchange back, we were knocking/visiting former investigators and we found the tree of life! That was pretty awesome I must say. It was raining when we did but we got some photos there it was great. Later in the afternoon we travelled to Ann Arbor and we had a lesson with an investigator. He is a great guy,! He always has lots of great questions, I love going to visit him. We are going to see him again later tonight. We also got to visit a recent convert and I need a picture with him to show you guys. He is so great and a really funny guy, I love him. he is fun to visit.

On Friday we Planned all morning so yea that was that. Then we went to visit our investigator and he is really great, we invited him to a baptism. We met with another investigator and that was great. We were able to answer his questions but he had a pile more so that's ok we will work with that. We had a dinner appointment tonight and that was great, they are a great family. She is the relief society president. We had burritos with like chicken, rice, corn and onions and it was great, so delicious. Then we did some missionary work making some calls.

On Saturday we went with the elders quorum president to visit some inactive members, none were home so that was boring. That night we went to a members for dinner, two days in a row and a Ypsilanti record for me. We also went to visit a family who is planning on going to the temple in July so we are working with them. We  shared the talk by Quinton L Cook about temples, a talk from this past conference and that was great.

On Sunday we had a Fast and Testimony meeting that was great. After church we had a 'sign and dine' at a members home. It's where a deaf person from the ward invites her deaf friends, the missionaries, and some ward members. We eat and sign and have a lesson and that was pretty cool! We also met with met with someone and we helped him do some FAMILY HISTORY so that was cool. In general a great week!

I have been in the mission field for just over 4 months.... wow time flies!

Lots of Love

You Are A Child Of God....Week 1 in YPSILANTI

On Sunday last week we went to a members home for Easter lunch and it was really great. We had chicken and potatoes and it was great! After all was said and done we hoped in the car and travelled to Halifax. It was only like 3 hours and 30 minutes. That night I was able to have dinner at the Feilden's! This is my great-great-Aunt Thelma and Uncle Aubrey. Ohhh my the food was amazing,  ham, potatoes and all the veggies and the best apple pie ever! We had a great Easter and I was so thrilled to be able to visit family that I have never seen before.  It was such a great day! I spent the night in the mission home.

On Monday I left the mission home at like 6:15 am and left the city at like 9:00 am. I eventually arrived in Detroit at like 1:09 pm and NO TROUBLES IN THE AIRPORT :) When I landed President and Sister Gerber where there to greet me. They are amazing! That day we spent the day in the mission home learning and having some training and just a great day in general.

On Tuesday we travelled to the church for transfers and I met my companion Elder Harker. He is pretty cool, he is from Idaho and I'm the first Canadian companion for him :), We are living in YPSILANTI (no that is not a spelling mistake) That morning we bought some groceries and that afternoon we hit the ground running and knocked for like three hours. We had a ward correlation meeting that night. It was a successful first day in the mission. Our apartment is ok... heavy smoking has been in there and it is smaller then my last one but I'll make it home for the next - well however long! We also got to have a lesson with one of our investigators, he is really cool. He fixes and restores watches for a living, really interesting. On a side note in the Ypsi ward there are three sets of missionaries Elder Harker and I and the zone leaders and a set of sisters.

On Wednesday we had a district meeting. Elder Harker is a District Leader so he had me give an assignment and because everyone was new to the area and well I am his companion, so I was the easy target but it wasn't hard. I had to give a 7 min instruction on the restoration so  it wasn't too challenging. Tonight we had a meeting with the bishop and we also had dinner there, it was fantastic, so good! They fed us pizza! Bishop is an amazing guy, he is supper cool and I'm glad to be working  with him. We also got to go knocking tonight. The people of Ypsi are pretty cool I love them, its amazing!

On Thursday we went over to visit a young lady who is preparing to serve a mission and we did some practices with her. I love practices as they really do help you and can make you a better missionary, but most times they can be awkward and well interesting. We did more knocking tonight and visiting formers, so we have done a lot of finding here so far, its been great! Tonight is family history night so the missionaries help out. One set goes to the class and is there because it is a non member class. It was so fun, the sister that runs it is really awesome. Her stories are amazing. I am loving the people here, they are neat. So the weather here is just like southern Alberta. It was 65ºF (18ºC) here the other day and then it was raining so like 42ºF (5ºC) It fluctuates like crazy not really consistent - I like it.

On Friday we had our weekly planning session and well I'm a man of organization so I was a little lost. It is not to organized down here but over time it will be :)  So we got a referral to go visit this guy, so we went and visited him and 2 1/ 2 hours later we were able to leave. He can talk but he is so funny, I haven't laughed that hard for a while now. He made some funny jokes! He has been meeting with missionaries for like the past 7 years and he moved to our area so we are teaching him now so hopefully we are able to help him progress. He also fed us dinner and that was interesting. He had never met us before but loves the missionaries. He wanted us to have a bible study but we never got to that so we will continue and see how it goes.

On Saturday was General Conference. Oh my, I have been exited for this for the past month or so. I was exited to be able to watch it. This is were my title comes in, the talk I really enjoyed was given by Elder Hallstrom in the Saturday morning session. He talked about how we are all children of God and do we know it? I'm here to say I KNOW IT AND THAT ALL OF YOU ARE TO. General Conference was amazing! I really enjoyed it, all the great messages. The talk by President Uchtdorf in the priesthood session, all of it was amazing! I really enjoyed it all so I'd encourage you all to go and watch it. That was my Saturday conference

On Sunday was more General Conference. Man it was good and the talks were amazing. So much in so little time. And like Elder Holland said - when this is over and you're done reading my blog - go eat your ice cream!! That night we were able to go and visit a recent convert,  he has only been a member for like 4 months. He is way cool and his story is a amazing and really touching. The way he says it all, he is awesome! So that has been my week in Detroit. It also snowed here so the temp dropped to 31ºF  (-1ºC) so the weather is always changing, I like it!

PS.    Shout out to Aaron B For autism awareness week and I was wearing a blue tie on Sunday!

Lots of Love
