It Only Gets Worse, Then Sunshine ...Week 5 in Monroe

Monday was great we started off the week after preparation day going to a investigators home with the Bishop and that was a super great lesson! And that was basically our day!

So if you can all recall my companion walks like a old man who needs a cane but does not have one, so Tuesday he was walking funny and we could not go finding so we called tons of people. That afternoon we went to stop by someone who loves us and she gave us some great crock pot recipes to try. Then that night our one appointment fell through so we just called more people then we went to read with a less active member. I love when we get to read with him.

There was no district meeting Wednesday so we went to help a lady in the ward mow here lawn, ok I did most of it, Elder Musich tried haha and that was great to watch. That afternoon we were helping this guy continue on the road to the temple so we talked with him and things are going great. That night we stopped by some one who told us to come back but we are not sure if he is all there. The week may seem boring so far but that's ok it don't expect it to get better but continue reading!

Thursday morning we went finding and Elder Musich did ok for and hour but to no avail his back could not handle it anymore. We had one appointment but other then that we organized and called people, you can only call so much! After we went to visit this less active member who wants to start coming back now that she can!

Friday was great, we planned for a bit then we meet President and that was great, he instructed us for a while then we got into interviews. Sister Cleveland showed us some cleaning tips and we were able to get to know her better! Interviews went for a long time but we carpooled there so we could not leave till all were done! That took up our whole day. When we went back we had dinner and then had our language study.

Saturday, it was a good thing we can't go out and do finding as it was in the high 90ºF! Today came the sunshine in full force!  We had a correlation meeting that night, the first one in a while because our ward mission leader was on vacation. We also made more calls and organized and cleaned!

Sunday was full of meetings. We had some before and after church and then we had dinner at our ward mission leaders home. After we stopped by some people.

Now don't you guys worry I am taking care of Elder Musich, we have a chiropractor appointment for Tuesday so "all is well, all is well'

Cut By My Number 1 Fan ....Week 4 in Monroe

Last week we finished up our preparation day at the other elders apartment. We were playing Settlers and as we were getting ready to leave I wanted to use the fan because it was hot in there and I grabbed it. It turns out the fan they had has no back to it sliced my finger. It was minor so I'm good but I was cut by my number one fan!

Tuesday morning we drove down to Lambertville to contact a media referral and she was awesome! We shared the Book of Mormon then we came back for lunch and then did some finding. The heat is still relentless but that is OK. Then that night we went over to a  Spanish family, the mother speaks a little English and her children speak both but Elder Musich likes to speak Spanish and practice speaking in Spanish. We also take a member with us who speaks Spanish. It was a great lesson, as far as I could tell from what her child translated for me! Later that night we got a couch for are apartment! Finally!

District meeting on Wednesday was great we had the Zone Leaders come down and that was cool. We had some great instructions by one of the ZL and another one by another missionary. Later that day we went to see a member who we are preparing for the temple and that was great! Later that night we just did some great old finding!!

Thursday we went to one of our investigators because they were having a garage sale and we thought we would support them. Then that night we went back to Lambertville to have a lesson with the media referral and it was also a really great lesson, we invited her to church.

Friday was a super planning day, it was great! At 11 we went back to those investigators and had a hill billy breakfast, biscuits & gravy, eggs & bacon. It was great! In the afternoon we went to do more of the best thing -  we did finding! In case you were wondering it was still very hot!

Saturday we came back for lunch and someone was moving in to the apt across the hall so we offered our help and they gladly accepted. It was great except for the part where Elder Musich carried something up the stairs and hurt his back. We carried on with our day and went to a lesson and then came back and we called the presidents wife who told us to call the doctor. We were told he was at least to rest his back, so we were in the apartment for the rest of the night.

So going to church the next day was fun! haha! Elder Musich walks like an old man. This afternoon we went out with someone who just showed up at church asking to do missionary work so we took him to visit a less active. it was great. After he called our parents to tell them how we are doing. (He called and talked to me (Jackie) and he said that he was so impressed with how they were doing. He said that he was impressed by Brads knowledge of the scriptures and how he was observant to the needs of the member. This man travels a lot and rarely attends the same ward. He said that since he isn't in his home ward and able to do his calling he offers his help to the missionaries where he is visiting. It was fun to hear from someone who was just with Brad)

I want everyone to read this talk as it has brought comfort to me this past week and it is one that can bring us all that added comfort. It's called He will place you on his shoulders and carry you home by Dieter F Uchtdorf from the April 2016 Sunday morning session.

We were given a crock pot and we had a roast

crock pot for 9 hours and it was great!

Not The Success We need ....Week 3 in Monroe

Well, I would like to start off by saying you have not experienced humility until you have been out side knocking for three hours and then while doing that also dripping in sweat! Yes, that was the case this week and on one of the days there was a heat wave where our car all day was reading  100ºF!

Tuesday, after we emailed we went and did some finding. Then we went to meet with a less active member, then later that day we had our language study. I am coming along with it, I can understand Elder Musich when he prays and "sometimes" when he speaks slowly. That night after like 1.5 hours of knocking we talked with someone and she works at a place where one of the members we see weekly lives so we have invited her to church and she had work but we will keep on trying!

Wednesday was Zone Meeting where we had to travel 45 min. We went with our District leader so we left Monroe at 7:25 AM and that was a fun trip. After that when we got back it had just rained and when we got out of the car "BOOM" it was so HOT! Me and Elder Wood went on an exchange! Fun fact on Elder Wood.. when I arrived in Ypsi he had just finished being Elder Harker's companion. The exchange was great. We went to see a member who we are helping to go to the temple! Love him, then we went back home for a lunch/dinner and Elder Wood made ramen and man that was delicious! We went out knocking that night and we found success, as in we were offered lots of water from people so that in itself was a blessing! We were so hot and it wasn't even sunny that much it was just so humid but we endured.

The next morning, Thursday, we went and tried to stop by someone and in the process Elder Wood was almost killed by a pit bull! We saw a "beware of dog" sign and then two little puppies ran out and so that was we thought the sign was for, the two little ones. But then as we got closer to the door the Pit comes out from the garage... we had awoke the beast! Elder Wood is ok! We went back to the apt for lunch then exchanged back. Today was a heat wave and again we found success in that we were offered cold water by the people who shut us down. Not the success we need but its a close second.

Super Planning Friday, then we went to pick up a member and take him to a lesson with another member who we are helping prepare for the temple. Tonight we went to help at the soup kitchen and that was great, it was ran by a catholic church and the people there were great! The soup kitchen in Charlottetown was better but I'm glad we got to go to this one. Also, I made a cake that morning. It was a jello cake and I must say it was pretty darn great!

The next morning we went out to find and we went to this one neighbourhood and when we got out of the car there were tons of Jehovah's Witnesses out. We continued to do our thing but it was pretty great!

Sunday was great, we attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and it was a great service. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants the truth in their life! That afternoon we went to meet with a less active at a members home, the member is a good friend and the member basically said it how it is and was blunt! It was great. That was a week in the view point of Elder Rodgers

Job 30:30 "My skin is burnt upon me, and my face is burned with heat."

"This was also the scripture of the week"!

The Lone Patriotic Missionary ...Week 2 in Monroe

So I will start off by saying 'Oh Canada' because I have had to explain that Canada has a day like independence day and its July 1st, and also that we don't ride dog sleds and that I don't have a polar bear - but that I do occasionally say Eh?   Haha...just kidding! People don't think I ride dog sleds but I will convince someone I do!

So we started off the week by preparing for the week. Here on P-Days we play board games and hacky sack. I enjoy this because I have become better at some games and at the hacky sack.

On Tuesday we travelled to the Westland stake centre to meet President Cleveland (our new Mission President) and that was really cool. He has a strong faith in and a desire to do missionary work! Later that evening we had our missionary correlation meeting and we had home made chicken pot pie and that was by far thee best Chicken pot pie I have ever had!

On Wednesday we had a few appointments and we did some finding that evening. In general it was a great day.

Thursday we did service for someone we are trying to begin teaching - we did some gardening! She also fed us a Cony Dog (no I don't mean corn dog) and baked beans which are not half bad! If you don't know what a cony dog is then search it up (Search Cony dog in Michigan). After helping her my gardening skills have improved! Then we travelled to a older sister in the ward to help her mow her lawn. I thought it was a small one but if you consider 6 acres small then yes it was small but I don't! At least we had a ride on mower and it went by fast. That night we had a appointment with some people who we hope to begin teaching and she baked us a cake!

CANADA DAY I was a Lone Patriotic Missionary, who sung Oh Canada alone and who had on a red tie! This morning I made the most Canadian like breakfast I could think of and that was French Toast with maple syrup :) Later that day we went to see a member and then another and that night we did finding.

Saturday was slotted as a Finding day and we did but that night someone who we has previously talked to called us back to help her water her lawn so we helped her with that, and that was lots of fun, she was great!

Sunday was fast Sunday and that night we had dinner with a family and that was great! We had rice pork cheese and tortilla shells and Jello Cake for Dessert!  They are such a amazing family!!!

So on the 4th of July the people down here celebrate that day, their independence day so that's cool lol. That night we had a BBQ at our ward mission leaders home and that was a lot of fun and before that all day we just played board games! That was a ton of fun!
